THRESHOLDS
to be or not to be

THRESHOLDS
To Be or Not to Be
by Barbara Dall’Angelo
In the suspended time of transformation, there is always a threshold: a fragile point where something is no longer what it once was, yet has not become what it will be.
Thresholds emerges from this in-between space.
The photographs do not portray a transformation already complete, but rather the fleeting instant when reality hesitates, when the landscape seems to hold its breath before taking on a new form.
In dialogue with MIA Photo Fair’s theme of Metamorphosis, the project chooses to linger just before change becomes apparent, focusing on its most delicate threshold: a moment of uncertainty, silent tension, and possibility.
Here, metamorphosis is not a spectacle, but a state of being. It is transformation as an enduring dimension of existence.

“In Thresholds, I have sought to photograph what usually escapes our gaze: not the dramatic moment, but the quiet instant when something is on the verge of becoming something else.
The advancing mist does not erase the landscape; it transfigures it.
Each photograph is born of patience, of attuning myself to a natural rhythm that cannot be forced.
In these images, I am not searching for the final form of things, but for the passage between states. Because it is precisely in change that I recognize the deepest truth of what it means to be in this world.”
