STORY BEHIND THE SHOT I planned this shot of the moon setting on Rocca Calascio well in advance. For some time I had been looking for subjects to photograph with the Moon and for months I went around with the compass to find an interesting foreground coinciding with the moonrise or the moonset. It had to be exactly on the horizon line and at least 1 kilometer away for both the subject and the Moon to be in focus. Going to Rocca Calascio I realized that it would be the perfect subject. The right day: 8 months later. The right place: in the middle of a nearby mountain. The right time: 5.00 o’clock in the morning.
In this case I was very lucky: after a long wait, the full moon happened, saving me from haze or overcast skies.
